Video Game Sources publishes plain-language guides, history and buying advice for people who play video games. We write the explanations we wanted when we were working something out ourselves: what a piece of hardware actually does, why a genre ended up the way it is, and what is genuinely worth weighing before you spend money.
Who writes this
Articles are published by the Video Game Sources Editorial Team. We are enthusiasts and researchers, not game developers, industry analysts or journalists with insider access. We do not receive review units, we are not briefed under embargo, and we have no relationship with any publisher, platform holder or retailer. When something is a matter of judgement rather than fact, we say so and explain our reasoning instead of presenting an opinion as settled.
What we will not do
- We do not invent numbers. No benchmark results, sales figures, player counts or review scores unless they are verifiable, and we would rather describe a difference in plain terms than publish a precise-looking figure we cannot stand behind.
- We do not report rumours or leaks as fact, and we do not write about unannounced hardware or games as though they exist.
- We do not quote developers or executives unless the quote is real.
- We do not explain how to obtain games you have not paid for, how to defeat copy protection, or how to cheat against other players. Emulation and game preservation are topics we cover; acquiring other people’s copyrighted work is not.
About prices
Hardware and game prices move constantly and differ by region and retailer. Where we mention a price at all it is indicative and tied to a moment in time, never a quote. Always check the current price yourself before buying.
Corrections
If we have got something wrong, we would rather know. Use the contact form and tell us which article and what is incorrect, and we will check it and amend the page.
